Welcome to South Park Prompts, a prompt-based challenge community for original SP fanworks.

This comm is strictly for new, original South Park fanworks and we're open to any kind of fanwork, including but not limited to art, comics, cosplay, fic, graphics, and vids. For any other type of post, check out spdiscussion.

Please also note that we have a zero tolerance policy on theft and plagiarism, so please only post your own work. Any infraction will result in the poster being banned from the comm. (Exceptions for graphics makers and vidders are detailed below.) To report instances of plagiarism or theft, please contact Miaou via PM or email.

General Info
  • New prompts are offered every other Thursday. (If you miss the two-week time frame for a prompt, don't worry—responses to previous challenges are accepted any time.)

  • Fanworks responses should be posted to the comm and simultaneously may be posted anywhere else you like, on- or off-site (unlike with formal challenges, there's no waiting period). Wherever else you post, we'd appreciate a courtesy link back to the comm.

  • While we prefer works to be posted directly to the comm, linking to the work elsewhere (your own LJ or offsite) is allowed.

  • You do not have to be a member of the comm to post, although you do need an LJ account. (If you don't have one, you can create a free one.)

Content Guidelines
  • South Park Prompts is open to any and all kinds of fanwork, including but not limited to art, comics, cosplay, fic, graphics, and vids.

  • Because our goal is to inspire new fanworks, posted works should be created in response to the prompt. In other words, please do not post previously published work here just because it fits the theme.

  • Posted work must be the creator's own. Among other things, this means no picspam posts of art you didn't draw yourself and no posting on someone else's behalf (if they don't have an LJ account, it's free to create one).
    • Exception for graphics makers and vidders: You may use fanart by others as long as you have explicit written permission and can produce a copy if requested by comm maintainers. See "Posting Guidelines" below for crediting requirements.

  • All posted fanworks should be polished. Betas are recommended but not required.

  • All posted fanworks should be self-contained and able to be read or viewed as a stand alone piece, whether they're one shots or a part of a series. If you're inspired to write a chaptered fic or draw a chaptered comic, that's great and we encourage you to post wherever else you like—it's just outside the scope of this comm. (If you do create a chaptered work, of course you're most welcome to post it here when it's complete.)

  • There is no minimum size/length requirement and no maximum restriction (as long as pieces are self-contained).

  • All South Park characters and pairings are welcome. Original characters are accepted as long as they are not the focus of the piece.

  • All genres are welcome. Crossovers and fusions are fine (they just need to be labeled as such in the tags).

  • All ratings are welcome.

Posting Guidelines & Forms

To help make this comm as useful and smooth as possible, please follow these guidelines and use the appropriate forms when posting. First-time violators will receive a warning and will be given 24 hours to fix their post before it is removed. Second-time violators will be placed on moderated posting status. After three successful posts, those on moderated status will be moved back to unmoderated posting.

For organizational purposes and indexing using the archive view, please use the following format for the subject line when posting:

Prompt # - Response Type: Optional Title (Optional Characters/Pairing)

Some examples:
001 - Fic: How to Hold a Crocodile (Stan/Kyle)
001 - Art (Craig, Clyde, Token)
001 - Art: The Intelligence of Dogs (Cartman, Wendy)
001 - Comic: The World of Dinosaurs (Kevin)
001 - Cosplay (Kenny/Butters)

For organizational purposes and indexing using tags, tagging your posts is required.

Tags are grouped into categories using a prefix:
  • +art
  • +comic
  • +cosplay
  • +fic
  • +graphics
  • +vid
  • -one shot
  • -series
  • ^alternate timeline
  • ^alternate universe
  • ^crossover
  • ^fusion
  • ~ prompt followed by the prompt number
  • by: followed by the LJ username of the creator/poster
  • c: followed by the character's name
  • p: followed by the pairing (tip: pairings tags list the characters in alphabetical order by first name)
Many tags have been created already but if you need a new one for something you've posted to the comm, leave a comment at the tag request post and we'll add it.
  • Please note that the tag you want might already exist but not be visible in the Tags Index because, unfortunately, LJ is set up so that "tags not used on any entry will be private, and only maintainers can see them until they are applied to an entry." In such cases, you should be able to select the desired tag from the dropdown in the "Tags" field when posting. If you don't see what you want, we'll be happy to add it.
When deciding which characters and pairings to include in tags and headers, put yourself in the place of a potential reader or viewer: the characters and pairings listed don't necessarily have to be the main ones, but they should have a substantial enough part/presence that anyone who clicks the lj-cut just for that one character or pairing will feel it was worth it.

Headers are required and are divided into required info and optional info. Everything else should go behind an LJ cut.
Headers – Required Info

Headers – Alternate Required Info for Cosplayers

Headers – Optional Info
If you want to include a teaser, please adhere to these restrictions:
  • Text teasers should be a maximum of 100 words.
  • Image teasers should be a maximum of 200px for each side.
Graphics makers and vidders are also required to include a separate note identifying and crediting every piece of fanart used, and confirming they have permission to use it. This note should go behind the LJ cut and may be included either before or after the fanwork.

If you have any questions, please comment here (comments are screened).

Thanks for dropping by and, whether you're here for inspiration or enjoyment (or both), we hope you have yourself a time!

Ah - very nice job fleshing out the community...urg...it really wasn't what I had in mind but thats ok. (1 or 2 word prompts usually aren't enough for me I like specific things, not sure if anyone else has the same opinion...)
I'm very much glad this comm is up and running. Good luck to everyone. ^^

Sorry this is making you go "urg"! The prompt and challenge comms I'm familiar with use one and two word prompts, and I was modeling this after them since I know they work. (I thought I mentioned using broad prompts during the conversations over at spdiscussion, when you said we'd need different prompts for authors, artists, etc.?).

For specific prompts, you might find inspiration at the kink meme? Or if you decide to make a comm for long/detailed challenges, we'd be happy to affiliate. :)

Sorry, I meant no offence! more like "urg I probably cant make this work for myself why am I so frustrating" kind of urg.
and yeah, unfortunately havent checked back to lj for a week or two so I just noticed that comment.
But you are mod to this community, I really know nothing of this sort of thing so whatever you think works best...Someday I may find inspiration in just one word but Im much too artblocked at the moment...
Carry on solider ~

I'm sorry you won't be participating, since I think you're a great artist. And I really hope you manage to break out of your artblock! Maybe ask for specific/detailed prompts on tumblr or even over at the discussion comm, with no guarantee that you'll do all of them?

Oh, I'm sorry I'm confusing. :/

And yes! My icon is from a sketch Soltian did for one of my requests back when she was doing 5 Minute Tuesdays on Tumblr. I had asked for Stan at the end of a long but good day, and I think she nailed it. :)
